VAT & Customs After Brexit – Are You Ready?

Grant Thornton UK LLP

17th September 2020

On 31st January the UK left the European Union and entered a transitional period which is due to finish on 31 December 2020. The transitional period has allowed organisations to continue operating, for VAT and Customs duties purposes, as though the UK is still an EU Member State and to prepare for dealing with the EU on “rest of world” terms from 1 January 2021.

With less than 120 days before the transition period ends, businesses need to consider the following questions:

– How will you ensure that 2021 will be as close to “business as usual” as possible?
– Are you ready for the changed compliance requirements?
– Do you need to move goods into the EU before 2021 to avoid additional duty charges?

To help answer these questions and more, we’re delighted to invite you to our upcoming webinar taking place via Teams on Tuesday 29th September from 11:00 – 12:00.

At the webinar our international speakers will cover considerations and steps to take regarding new registration and compliance options, including insight from three key territories: UK, Ireland and the Netherlands. You will also hear real life examples of projects we are currently working on as we share best practice and common challenges. In addition, Yvonne Chappell, UK Corporate Tax Director, will provide an update regarding direct tax considerations businesses need to think about in relation to Brexit.

Our speakers include Grant Thornton representatives across three international member firms:

Daniel Sherwood – UK – Indirect Taxes Senior Manager
Marian Lee – Ireland – Indirect Taxes Director
Robert-Jan Brethouwer – The Netherlands – VAT Senior Manager
Yvonne Chappell – UK – Corporate Tax Director
