STC’s technology & data innovation attracts life science & medical association Medilink East Midlands as member

Silverstone Technology Cluster

Medilink East Midlands has become the second significant industry sector body in as many months to announce a new data and technical-driven partnership with the Silverstone Technology Cluster.

Medilink EM is the East Midlands life science industry association which aims to help companies establish, develop and grow.

It provides specialist support to boost the region’s economic output from life sciences by overcoming barriers to growth. Its highly knowledgeable team is recognised as being a trusted source of expert assistance.

Importantly, Medilink EM’s and the STC’s partnership has the potential to open up new opportunities and collaborations for Cluster members looking to transfer their skills and technologies to a new sector.

In a similar ‘reciprocal membership’ agreement to that with Composites UK (see separate story), the STC and Medilink EM will also promote one another’s news and fixtures and be invited to speak at each other’s events that are relevant.

Medilink EM Project Leader Innovation Teresa Smith enthused: “With technology and data-based innovation increasing, cross boundary activity is seen as a really important step forward – particularly with the outstanding demonstration in this current crisis of fast turn-around of automotive and aerospace companies to produce essential medical technology and materials.

“With the support of Pim Van Baarsen (STC CEO) and his excellent team, Medilink is looking to participate at more STC events and is now a member of the Wearable Technology Special Interest Group.

“We are really impressed by the STC’s growth and profile inside just four years and see a real opportunity to take all the cross-boundary activity currently and build on it for the future.”

In 2019 Medilink presented at the STC’s Annual Conference and the two organisations have since been working together to help encourage greater activity between medical technology and high-tech engineering.

Pim van Baarsen commented: “Our partnership with Medilink EM has the potential to be very exciting for our member companies.

“It is clear from past and present activity during the COVID-19 pandemic that many have the precision, speed and all-round capabilities to provide innovative solutions in the life sciences and medical/healthcare sectors.

“This could really help to open new doors for them in terms of funding for projects, job creation and growth. We’ve also seen just how dynamic Teresa Smith and the Medilink team are – it seems like an excellent fit and we look forward to seeing this partnership thrive for our members.”
