STC region’s companies to benefit from BtB business expert Fellows

Silverstone Technology Cluster

8th March 2021

The Silverstone Technology Cluster (STC) welcomes the arrival of two senior business leaders who will provide advice from decades of experience to companies in the Cluster.

Dr Nigel Whitehead CBE, Director of External Affairs at BAE Systems, and Andrew Cowdery, industry co-chair of the Defence Growth Partnership, have both agreed to provide their time and expertise with immediate effect.

Their arrival has been agreed as part of the Fellows programme run by government-backed business advice network Be the Business (BtB) which has appointed the STC as one of its national Trailblazer projects for 2021.

Andrew commented: “Working with the Silverstone Technology Cluster offers exciting possibilities for collaboration and sharing of ideas to improve productivity and prosperity.

“As Fellows, we bring a wealth of experience which we want to share with others. I see our role as supporting implementation of Be the Business programmes and providing access to cross-sector business opportunities, shared best practices and networking.

“I know first-hand what a benefit these can be to participating business leaders.”

And he added: “I’m excited by the innovation, people, products and services being developed by companies in the STC, and I’m encouraged by what we can achieve together.”

Be the Business was launched in 2017 with the aim of connecting businesses large and small and solving the UK’s productivity puzzle.

Its Fellows initiative connects veteran industry experts with businesses looking for advice and solutions to practical problems. Fellows focus in particular on management and leadership techniques, and effective adoption of technology.

As well as running the Fellows initiative, Be the Business provides a range of learning, mentorship and development programmes to small and mid-sized businesses (SMEs).

Its partnership with the STC during 2021 provides access to these programmes, which include SME Advisory Boards, Mentoring for Growth and Business Leadership Pathway programmes.

Since the start of the pandemic, Be the Business has provided advice and guidance to thousands of SMEs across the UK.
