Roundtable sessions bringing STC members and local MPs together

Silverstone Technology Cluster

29th September 2020

Local MPs have joined members of Silverstone Technology Cluster as part of a new series of online STC Roundtable events, to give local businesses a chance to express their ideas, experiences and concerns relating to COVID-19, Brexit and the new Trade Bill.

The STC business network was represented by Punch Flybrid, Delta Motorsport, Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence, KW Special Projects, RML Group, Cysiam, Lohmann, STC CEO Pim van Baarsen, and both the South East Midlands and Buckinghamshire Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs).

Both Andrea Leadsom and Greg Smith, MPs for South Northants and Buckingham respectively, attended the Zoom call.

The STC Roundtable series was the idea of MEPC’s Roz Bird, STC Chair and the Commercial Director at Silverstone Park (a founding member of the Cluster).

Roz commented: “These Roundtable events are enabling our community of high-tech businesses to talk directly with their local LEP CEOs and local MPs.

“At this time of great change and great challenge the business environment has become increasingly complex to navigate.

“I wanted to find a way to give our LEP CEOs and MPs the feedback they need so that when they are debating issues and making decisions they have real business voices in their minds; to give them the courage of their convictions and hopefully ensure that our business community successfully navigates these extraordinary times.

“A third event in the series will be organised in October 2020. We have tried to include the same businesses in the last two discussions, but I am keen to hear from any other STC member that would like take part.

“I know that our colleagues in government have been feeding in to the Comprehensive Spending Review this month; obviously the response to the second wave of the pandemic is playing out right now, and so there will be a lot to discuss, in the time available, as usual.”
