Powerful Conversations on Gender Equality at Next Steps event

On March 23rd, 2020, the STC’s Gender Equality and Diversity committee organised a follow up workshop to their Building a Winning Team for Business Success event in November 2020.

This workshop was predominantly focussed on providing attendees valuable insights on how to go about achieving a more gender balanced business. The previous event (available to review here) clearly established the business benefits, but also the barriers that exist.

After a brief scene-setting introduction by STC Chair Roz Bird, Helen Wylde, MD of East Coast Trains engaged in a conversation with ‘Change the Game’ author Julia Muir to discuss some of the pertinent issues that business leaders will have to overcome, including micro aggressions and gaslighting.

This was followed by an interview that Julia did with John Tordoff, CEO at JCT600. During the interview John talked about how establishing the right corporate culture is critical to achieving a gender balance.

The attendees were then split into different groups to discuss corporate culture and what small changes they each could make on the journey to achieving a better gender balance in their business.
