OBE for STC advisor TotalSim’s Rob Lewis

Silverstone Technology Cluster

11th September 2017

Rob Lewis, Managing Director of TotalSim which acts as a special advisor to the Silverstone Technology Cluster, has been appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire.

The OBE was awarded in the Queen’s Birthday honours list for services to sport – namely Rob’s contribution to British athletes’ performance in the last three Olympic campaigns.

Rob was one of the founding members of the so called ‘secret squirrel’ club, whose innovation gave Team GB cyclists a technological advantage and contributed significantly to their performance.

Brackley based TotalSim’s input was its expertise in computational fluid dynamics which helped Team GB study in finite detail and improve the aerodynamics surrounding its athletes during competition.

Rob commented: “It is an honour to receive the title in recognition of the work TotalSim has done, with the help of others, to advance science in the field of Sport and help GB athletes.”

“The challenges around cycling aerodynamics are harder than F1 cars.  It is great to be able to help solve these tricky problems and contribute to our athlete success.”

While TotalSim will continue its pursuit of technological advantages for elite athletes, Rob is also a Silverstone Technology Cluster board member providing a high-growth company perspective and is leading its first special interest group (SIG) focusing on computer aided design (CAD).
