Project Engineer/Mechanical Design Engineer

We are looking for a number of project engineers/mechanical design engineers who are creative problem solvers to join our high-performance engineering team. KWSP is an engineering solution provider working across a range of sectors including high performance sport and automotive. We deliver unique and diverse projects from wind tunnels for performance sports and reverse engineering for historic motorsport to R&D development printers for digital fabrication, whilst retaining our core customers and capabilities from motorsport.

We use a range of processes and technologies, such as composites, additive manufacturing and automation to provide solutions to our customers.

This role would be suited to someone with 3+ years’ experience who is interested in the full project life cycle. Applicants will preferably have a degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline. We will however consider applicants with a HND in mechanical engineering or a related discipline.

Specifically, the role will require the following;

Project co-ordination / management – Must have ability to:

  • Make project decisions based on informed judgement and the needs of the project.
  • lead a project, manage the day to running of the project and communicate goals and objectives effectively within the team using excellent communication skills
  • manage customer relationships effectively
  • realize project objectives to time and budget

Design – Must have ability to:

  • Use CAD (presently we use Solidworks)
  • Develop concept schemes (such as machines or complex sub-assemblies)
  • Prepare detailed design models and drawing
  • Deliver effective BOM management
  • Work within design specifications to meet budget requirements (time and costs).
  • Work with suppliers to enhance component design
  • Prepare detailed design models and drawing         

Prototype Development – Desirable

Whilst assembly is not part of the day to day role, as a small business, we will expect you to get involved in the following from time to time;

  • simple assembly work independently
  • Aiding in the assembly process for larger projects
  • Work with other members of the team (if relevant) to commission the project
  • Help develop a system to meet customer specification

Acceptance Tests and Installation – Desirable

Whilst it is not expected that site work will be a significant part of the role, in certain circumstances tasks (such as smaller projects) could include

  • Managing and performing site installation and testing work
  • Undertaking any required continuous improvement work
  • Fault finding and resolution

Person Specification: Core competencies and experience.

  • Knowledge of general engineering principles (Must)
  • Proven and skilled use of CAD (preferably Solidworks – Surfacing (Aspirational) and Solid Modelling (Must)
  • Relevant industrial experience (Must)
  • Evidence of client-facing experience (Must)
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills (Must be good – Exceptional is aspirational)
  • Ability to prepare specifications and deliver these within budget (Must)
  • Confident use of MS-Office applications (Must)
  • Experience and appreciate of drawing office procedures (Must)
  • Experience (aspirational) or awareness (strong like) and appreciation of FEA, CFD and simulation techniques
  • Practical hands-on assembly experience (like)
