Main Purpose of Role:
Engineering office based, this interdepartmental role is responsible for the development and validation of products, systems and components while providing engineering support to other JRM departments. This position will also be responsible for supporting, maintaining, and running JRM’s internal testing capabilities and facility.
You will support a range of projects led through the engineering department, and responsibilities may include understanding and agreeing the customer requirements, initial project setup, defining scope, planning and implementation, through to maturity and completion via validation and verification process.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

Engineering Deliverables

• Support Customer technical communications to assist in identifying, clarifying, and translating customer requirements into performance and testing criteria
• Identify homologation/regulation/legislation requirements
• Write Target and Requirement documents
• Assist quotations
• Plan workflows and construct WBS (Work Breakdown Structure) for development stages of projects
• Plan, develop, and conduct virtual and physical tests
• Specify, install, and operate instrumentation and data acquisition tools
• Use gathered data alongside subjective evaluation and supplier cooperation to identify parameter changes to cause desired changes in system performance
• Compile clear, accurate and concise technical reports

Quality Management

• Assist the Quality Department as required with reviewing, maintaining, and updating the documents and other assets required to satisfy the requirements of JRM quality levels, and to ensure the adherence to relevant ISO standards.
• Lead and assist with prompt investigation and resolution of issues and faults.
• Maintain JRM’s engineering standards at all times.

Test Facility and Equipment Management

• Operate, set up, calibrate, and maintain test equipment and models/software
• Create and maintain test procedure documentation
• Develop and improve test equipment as necessary
• Assist in developing and delivering Engineering Process, Procedures, guides, Work Instructions

Relationship Management

• Work with other team members of the wider engineering team
• Develop and maintain good relationships with internal and external contacts at all levels including other departments, other companies, universities, and research institutes

PERSONNEL SPECIFICATION

Qualifications and Experience

• Engineering degree or equivalent qualification.
• Competence in planning and utilisation of data acquisition equipment to enable understanding of vehicle system performance and development to meet targets.
• Vehicle systems level understanding
• Good understanding of Vehicle physics and analysis tools
• Attention to detail, robust, planned, work smart
• Analytical thinking skills and judgement
• Ideal: at least three years’ Automotive or Transport or Racing experience developing vehicles through utilisation of physical testing and experiments from concept to production.
• Beneficial: experience and interest in full-vehicle simulation and suspension kinematic architectures

Any JRM employee may be asked on occasion to perform additional or unrelated duties, after appropriate training has been given, if required.

Summary Terms & Conditions

• Pension – Upon joining the Company, you will be automatically enrolled, with contributions starting after successful completion of the probationary period. On completion of one years’ service, and subject to the rules, you will be invited to participate in the main JRM pension scheme.
• Leave entitlement – 25 days per year plus statutory holidays (compulsory shutdown of three days at Christmas).
• Notice period – There will be an initial three-month probationary period, during which notice will be one week on either side. On successful completion of the probationary period notice will be one month.
• Working hours – 08:30 – 17:00, Monday to Friday.
