Meet the Board: Mark Clement, Grant Thornton

Silverstone Technology Cluster

30th November 2018

His face is already well known to many in the Silverstone Technology Cluster but some might just have seen it on a well known sports TV channel, too… meet Grant Thornton’s Mark Clement.

Mark is among Grant Thornton’s top business advisers and, based at its Milton Keynes office, represents the company on the STC Board. After training with Coopers & Lybrand (now part of PwC), he’s worked for Grant Thornton in mergers and acquisitions since the late 1990s, save for a spell with RPC Group plc.

Raised near Swansea, he’s an avid lifelong supporter of the city’s football club but also keenly follows the Osprey’s rugby team (“although since I moved out this way, Northampton Saints have become my adopted team”)!

His other big passion is the arts, specifically music. “One minute I could be listening to Jamie Callum but the next Led Zeppelin. If there’s a half decent gig on then I’m up for it.

“The Stone Roses at Wembley was pretty cool and although I’ve not seen Led Zeppelin I have seen two of them, Robert Plant and Jimmy Page, perform together on stage.

“If I had to pick a desert island disc then it’d be Led Zeppelin’s ‘IV’. It’s synonymous with my youth…”

Mark and wife Jo also have two children: Amy is making a name for herself in theatre stage management (she recently worked alongside former Royal Shakespeare Society’s Artistic Director Sir Trevor Nunn CBE) and younger brother Ed has just graduated with a first class honours degree in international relations.

All four attend rugby and football matches together and in fact became pals with Ospreys winger Jeff Hassler! However, it was at a Swansea football fixture (away to Stoke City) that Mark got his 15 seconds of fame…

“I’d gone up there with Jo and Ed and I ended up on Sky Sports. They were training their cameras on the away fans and I was looking pretty glum. It wasn’t a good night. We lost…”
