Latest Tech and Solutions for SMEs presented at latest D&AM SIG event

Attendees to the latest Digital & Advanced Manufacturing Special Interest Group event, Factories of the Future, were treated to an overview of the latest technologies and programmes as well as what solutions are out there for SMEs to engage with to bring industry 4.0 to their businesses.

The event, held on-line and compered by Charpak’s Niall Johanson, begin with an insightful presentation from Guy Brown from Renishaw will talked about the technology and capabilities they have developed to date and their vision going forward, especially highlighting the impact of developing ‘R central’, their connected metrology in the loop system.

This was followed by Brendan Sheppard of SmartFactory who explained how you can create real business value through digital transformation in manufacturing. His presentation shared insights from case examples using IIoT, AI and machine learning, to help demonstrate how you can get started on the journey.

Dolores Sanders from Total Control Pro then shared hot-off-the press insights from their Digital Accelerator Prototype project with Safran and how its dynamic planning tool are set to transform their customers’ manufacturing operations. She further shared what they have learned about the current state of play, the next steps forward and also their experience as an SME of working with a large corporation.

After the networking break, Dimitrios Spiliopoulos, Stephanie de Albuquerque and Oliver Given from Amazon Web Services outlined what Amazon has been doing in terms of Industry 4.0, connectivity and digital twinning, while also outlining the various programmes they have in place to aid SME’s with their digitalisation journey.

The final presenter of the morning was Naim Kapadia from The MTC, whose presentation focussed on their latest developments in smart electronics manufacturing utilising robotics, AI and augmented reality.

“This was a really great event for people to learn the latest developments and get started on their digitalisation journey” commented Niall. “The presentations were very insightful, and we see a good range of these technologies now being deployed. At Charpak, we are implementing a number of these, and we are already seeing significant gains, so I would urge any business out there to embrace this. I love that the Silverstone Technology Cluster is bringing all this to the fore, and I know that there are several companies within the membership that can help companies move to the next level, so it is really great to see it all coming together.”
