Role and Business Summary:
The Microwave Materials business forms part of the BAE SYSTEMS Advanced Technology Solutions organisation. The role of the materials team in the Microwave Materials Group is to identify novel and innovative materials that operate in challenging environments.
This is an opportunity to join a dynamic and focused team working at the forefront of materials technology. The successful candidate will desire a role which requires creativity to produce proof of concept solutions for advanced active applications.
Candidates will need to be able to attain Full UK Security Clearance with no restrictions.
Typical Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will contribute to a variety of activities to support the development of new technologies and products to help grow the capabilities and portfolio of the business. Likely tasks include:
- Support the Research of emerging material technology solutions with applications in active domains (e.g. Aerospace, Maritime etc.).
- Preparation and maintenance of technical reports, presentations and engineering documentation.
- Maintaining high standards of quality.
- Liaising with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Support collaboration with the supply chain to secure a robust supply of raw materials.
- Identify opportunities for new work from a range of a source of sources such as academic journals, technology publications and work published by catapult centres and communication from industry partners.
- Use experience from practical application of processes to optimise manufacture of existing and future products.
Your Skills, Knowledge, and Experience Behaviour:
Essential:
- Degree (BSc/BEng + 1 Years’ Industrial Experience OR MSc) qualified in STEM subject, with a focus on Material Sciences.
- Possesses good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- A Positive, can-do attitude and willingness to learn.
- Candidate must be self-driven with the ability to set and achieve SMART goals and deadlines in line with the company’s strategic objectives.
- Able to work both as part of a team and autonomously where required.
- A general interest in Materials Science, particularly in the field of elastomers, composites and/or polymers.
- An understanding of the importance of safe working practises.
- An appreciation for the importance of maintaining high quality products.
Desirable (but not Essential):
- PhD in relevant STEM subject
- Membership of a recognised technical institute (e.g. IMechE, IET, IOM3 or equivalent).
- Experience in supporting material-based research projects (Academic or Industrial, including sandwich placement)
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft packages and data analysis tools.
