International audience hears STC’s transfer technology case studies

Silverstone Technology Cluster

22nd July 2021

The Silverstone Technology Cluster has been used as a positive example of transfer technology by a high-profile international motorsport/tech event.

Pim van Baarsen was invited to speak to a virtual audience of over 400 industry professionals at Motorsport Next – Industry Innovation & Technology Transfer Forum.

The event was organised by Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, amongst others, with significant input as well from global digital media group

During the event, Pim highlighted the STC’s work and activities, before answering questions about its founding, its collaborations across the Oxford to Cambridge Arc, its future ambitions and how it has aided some of the challenges caused during the pandemic.

The STC’s participation came through an invitation from event partner RPM – a network of Italian companies that is helping develop and promote the capabilities of high-tech motorsport SMEs in Italy.

Riccardo Paterni, Vice President, Business Development, RPM Network, commented: “Within the Motorsport Next Global Forum, as RPM we wanted to concretely exemplify a strong technology transfer project relevant to SMEs originating from motorsport

“Together with Dr Tim Angus (Forum co-presenter and RPM Board Advisor and UK Representative), we identified the Silverstone Technology Cluster as a perfect international case study on this topic.

“Therefore, we invited Pim to outline in a very straightforward way the STC’s history and developments, and together we are working on establishing stronger active ties among the companies and organisations we represent and network with.”

Riccardo has also confirmed that RPM, together with the forum organisers, is working on a white paper that will include all presentations made during the Motorsport Next forum – including the STC’s – with a narrative focusing on the flow of technology transfer.

The STC’s relationship with RPM started 12 months previously, with Pim invited to talk about the STC to the Italian network’s members.
