First ACES SIG Event Shows the Way Forward

Silverstone Technology Cluster

23rd March 2018

On Thursday March 22nd, experts from around the UK gathered at Silverstone Park for the inaugural Autonomous, Connected, Electrified and Shared (ACES) Special Interest Group meeting. The event started with funding presentation from Jacqui Murray of the Faraday Partnership and Andy Pascoe from Meridian. Both highlighted the funding mechanisms available in their respective areas of battery technology and CAV.

The focus then shifted to more technical presentations, with George Constantinou of the Romax group highlighting the issues around transmissions and electrification. John Bowers (JCC Bowers Group) then caused a stir with his presentation on newly developed advanced AI for autonomous vehicles, utilising hive learning coupled with improved sensor arrays to significantly advance the technology from where it is today.

A presentation delivered by one of the ACES SIG Champions, Gateway Technolabs’ Shaun McManus, detailed the latest technology available around the world in the connected space, highlighting many advances destined to soon become ingrained in everyday life, including how Gateway Group are using Block chain and its security features in the ACES environment.

Danson Joseph from Danecca and Peter Stoker of Millbrook shifted the focus onto battery technologies with their respective presentations. Danson explored both the manufacturing and storage / maintenance implications of battery technology, while Peter detailed the intricacies of battery technology testing, incorporating some dramatic video footage.

The final presentation of the day was delivered by ACES SIG Champion Roger Atkins, who emphasised the shift towards the circular economy and the emerging sharing culture. Roger subsequently lead an interesting discussion with the attendees on the implications of not just the shift in attitudes, but also the technological challenges that lay ahead.

“We were very pleased with the quality of the presentations and especially the interesting debate in the room at the end,“ commented fellow ACES SIG Champion Simon Holloway (RML Group) “it really highlights what the group is all about and helps to move the conversation forward. We look forward to continuing the debate at future events.”
