“Accessing information and technology” & “collaboration” help add to STC’s numbers

Silverstone Technology Cluster

10th March 2022

With news that the STC’s membership has risen to a record high, we take a look at two of the newest businesses to join the network: Lemsford Mill Controls (LMC) and PP Control & Automation.

Herts-based LMC, whose history dates back to the 1960s, specialises and innovates in the design and manufacture of electrical control panels.

It produces bespoke solutions for numerous UK and global clients, operating in markets such as building management systems, refrigeration, entrapment alarm panels, HVAC, high mast lighting and automation.

It offers a turnkey operation, from product conception through to volume production and post delivery service.

MD Ray Smith enthused: “We joined the Silverstone Technology Cluster because we believe it consists of high quality and competent local businesses of all maturity levels and sizes, operating in a variety of industries.

“Being part of the Cluster allows us to operate more productively by accessing information and technology, co-ordinating with related companies, measuring and motivating improvements.

“We aspire to grow organically by developing competitive products and the STC offers an inventory of high-quality suppliers in close proximity, which we believe lowers transaction costs, eliminates importing costs and delays in sourcing key materials.

“We deem local outsourcing a great solution, especially for advanced and specialised inputs involving embedded technology, information and services.”

PP Control & Automation has joined the STC to assist its members with the strategic outsourcing of its electrical and mechanical products.

PP’s Garry Myatt commented: “We see our services are well suited to many of the members who are in that early phase of product development and looking for a safe pair of hands to help productionise or assist in scaling up.”

As a manufacturing expert across a variety of market sectors and applications, the business can also call upon its ‘PP Plus’ offering by utilising its wider support network to assist in product launches.

These services are typically design, marketing, third party approvals, access to academia (via the University of Warwick and Warwick Manufacturing Group) and various technical and component suppliers.

Garry has also confirmed encouraging early engagement, adding: “It is early days in our membership but already business collaboration has started with members in energy and motorsport.”
